Weighted blankets are quilted blankets with weighted poly pellets inside to provide a specific amount of weight. They can range from 3 to 25 lbs, depending on the user's needs.
Weighted blankets provide deep pressure therapy which can:
-Aid with calming and relaxing high energy or restless children.
-Provide sensory input which can help keep the brain focused on things like homework, etc.
-Signal the brain to release neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, which have a calming affect and help with mood control.
-Help reduce stress and/or effects of trauma.
-Help with calming during sensory meltdowns.
-Brings a feeling of safety and protection to trauma survivors.
"Deep pressure touch stimulation (or DPTS) is a type of therapy that almost anyone can benefit from. Similar to getting a massage, pressure exerted over the body has physical and psychological advantages. According to Temple Grandin, Ph.D., 'Deep touch pressure is the type of surface pressure that is exerted in most types of firm touching, holding, stroking, petting of animals, or swaddling. [sic] Occupational therapists have observed that a very light touch alerts the nervous system, but deep pressure is relaxing and calming.'
"Traditionally, weighted blankets are used as part of occupational therapy for children experiencing sensory disorders, anxiety, stress or issues related to autism. 'In psychiatric care, weighted blankets are one of our most powerful tools for helping people who are anxious, upset, and possibly on the verge of losing control,' says Karen Moore, OTR/L, an occupational therapist in Franconia, N.H." Yes! My daughter went from needing me constantly with her, and still being awake for hours, to being able to sleep quickly and easily on her own. I could then sleep, too!!! :D Most children find that the weight feels like a giant hug, and that they feel cozy and safe and able to sleep better. Imagine the warm, cozy, bundled up feeling of the womb...weighted blankets can help replicate that feeling.
Yes! 6 foot twin blankets, Full, Queen, and King sizes are all good for adults. The weight has the same effect on adults as it does on children. It can help with anxiety, depression, PTSD (what I use my blanket for), SPD, Autism, Asperger's, and more. Many adults who use weighted blankets report greatly improved ability to sleep, and an increase in their ability to cope with anxiety.
We have had several customers order specifically for Fibromyalgia, RLS, and Brain Trauma, and they have seen good results. It will not remove the issue, but it may help in managing it. If it does not help, our 100% satisfaction guarantee applies, and you can return it for a full refund.
Our blankets are made from 100% cotton fabric prints, a 100% cotton backing, hypoallergenic poly pellets for weight, and poly filling for added softness and "fluff".
We can also use minky fleece as a backing on request.
We are an American company with all operations taking place in Charlotte, NC. Our seamstresses custom make the blankets by hand in their clean, pet free, smoke free sewing studios, and then we ship them out of my own home office. We are a woman owned, woman operated company, primarily staffed by moms!
Yes! We can make special orders, and can also make a blanket out of any cotton print on www.fabric.com. Find your special fabric, and message me for a custom quote!
We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If your blanket isn't helping the way you hoped it would, just send it back for a full refund, up to a month after receiving and beginning to use your blanket.
If you find you need a lighter or heavier weight, just send it back for an exchange blanket in your new weight. Product fees may apply for heavier exchange blankets to cover the increase in cost, as per the original listing. You pay return shipping for the current blanket, and we pay to send you the new exchange blanket.
You can machine wash your blanket with cool water on the delicate cycle, and machine dry it on low. You can also hang dry your blanket, which is my favorite, as tumble drying can be noisy! I choose to dry my blankets over my hallway banister.
